Kaparel Corporation announces upgraded PS6610 - 6U x 8HP CompactPCI single SCSI Hard Disk Drive Module
June 3, 2002 – Waterloo, Ontario
Kaparel Corporation today announced the launch of their new PS6610 CompactPCI-SCSI single hard disk drive module. This module allows a SCSI hard disk to be added to any CompactPCI embedded system, without requiring a sub-chassis. The PS6610 replaces the PS6600 and adds full hot swap capability to the design.

The PS6610 is a 6U x 8 HP x 160 mm, CompactPCI peripheral card, and is available as a PS6620 dual drive version. The PS6620 supports two Ultra160 SCSI channels. Each channel interfaces with a SCSI HDD and an optional rear transition card for use with CompactPCI backplanes.

The PS6610 and PS6620 are compliant with the PICMG 2.0 R3.0 CompactPCI Core Specification and the PICMG 2.1 R2.0 Hot Swap Specification. Both are compatible with a +5V or +3.3V, 33 MHz or 66MHz, 64-bit CompactPCI full hot swap bus on the P1/P2 connectors. The CompactPCI interface connects to one (on the PS6610) or two (on the PS6620) Ultrastar SCSI hard drives. Each SCSI hard drive is on its own SCSI bus, allowing for RAID 0.

Tom Sutherland, General Manager for Kaparel stated, "The PS6610 is an upgrade to our single drive product and includes all of the enhancements introduced in the PS6620, including full hot swap capability. Both products can also be ordered with various capacity Ultrastar drives for configuration flexibility in the customer’s application."

The PS6610 and PS6620 are easy to install, have plug-and-play functionality, and support most common operating systems. The units will also optionally accept supporting cards that allow for the insertion of additional external SCSI devices. The suggested list price for the PS6610 board is $978.00 US and for the PS6620 board is $1,167.00 US plus the hard drives selected on both models.
