| Kaparel Corporation announces the PS4700 family of CompactPCI horizontal backplanes with H.110 |
|
| June 3, 2002 – Waterloo, Ontario |
|
Kaparel Corporation announces the launch of their 1U, 2U and 4U horizontal CompactPCI backplanes. These backplanes are designed for the smaller 19" horizontal 1U to 4U high subracks. These backplanes will have configurations to include a host and from one to seven cards, with one or more power supplies, and will support H.110 (except 1U), PCI-X and SMB (system management bus).
The PS4700 series includes:
- PS4701 (1U x 84H – 1 Host slot and 1 node slot with cPCI and 1-47 pin Positronic power connector)
- PS4702 (2U x 84H – 1 Host slot and 3 node slots with cPCI and H.110 and 2-47 pin Positronic power connector)
- PS4704 (4U x 84H – 1 Host slot and 7 node slots with cPCI and H.110 and 3-47 pin Positronic power connector)
Ben Robitaille, Chief Technology Officer for Kaparel stated, "The Kaparel PS4700 series was developed because customers are no longer into system designs that allow expansion for the next five years. In 2001 there was a shift from 21-slot systems to smaller 19" horizontal "pizzabox" (1-4 U) subracks. Customers wanting more efficient use of space and resources drive the shift. When expansion is required additional boxes can be added."
Mr. Robitaille continued saying, "The life cycle of the equipment is shorter because less investment is made for expansion and enables replacement units to offer more capacity and/or services faster to customers."
The PS4700 series of backplanes have V(I/O) selection modules that are factory set at +3.3V or +5V, and are capable of providing up to 4A continuous current. The PS4702 (2U) and the PS4704 (4U) support the H.110 Computer Telephony Bus on P4. P5 is reserved for H.110 related user I/O and allow interfacing with rear cards. The 25 piece suggested list price of the boards is PS4701 $209.00 US, PS4702 $425.00 US & PS4704 $746.00 US.
The Kaparel PS4700 series of backplanes will be shown for the first time at the SUPERCOMM Show in Atlanta GA – June 4-6, 2002 on the Rittal booth (#10419) installed in Rittal’s new horizontal subrack offerings also being introduced at the show. |
